The Village Foundry is a hands-on enrichment program for children ages 5–12, where meaningful work, creativity, nature, practical skills, and community come together.
The Four Fires of The Foundry
A foundry uses fire to shape and strengthen. Ours are the four principles woven through every experience at The Village Foundry.
WONDER
Curiosity begins the work.
Children ask questions, observe closely, explore deeply, and seek understanding.
WORK
Learning becomes meaningful when there's something real to do.
Children take responsibility, solve problems, practice skills, and contribute to work that matters.
COMMUNITY
We learn alongside others.
Children collaborate, help, lead, communicate, serve, and discover the value of their contribution.
REFLECTION
Experience becomes understanding.
Children pause to think, discuss, journal, question, and consider what they might do differently next time.
Five Guilds. A World of Things to Explore.
Our Guilds give children opportunities to encounter different skills, materials, ideas, and responsibilities throughout the semester. Experiences evolve with our themes, seasons, and the questions children bring with them.
STEWARDSHIP
Care. Observe. Understand.
Stewardship invites children to slow down, observe closely, and understand their relationship with the living world around them. Through gardening, animal husbandry, ecology, beekeeping, and conservation, children learn that caring for something requires patience, consistency, and responsibility—and that their actions have an impact beyond themselves.

MAKING
Build. Repair. Figure it out.
Making gives children the opportunity to turn ideas into something tangible. Through woodworking, building, hand tools, simple repairs, and problem-solving, children learn to work through frustration, adjust when something doesn’t go as planned, and take pride in creating something with their own hands. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s developing the confidence to look at a problem and think, “I can figure this out.”

ARTISTRY
Ideas made tangible.
Artistry gives children space to explore ideas, materials, and their own creative voice. Through pottery, sewing, textiles, painting, design, and mixed-media work, children develop patience, attention to detail, and craftsmanship while discovering that there is rarely only one right way to create. It's a place to experiment, make mistakes, refine an idea, and experience the satisfaction of bringing something uniquely their own into the world.

PROVISION
From raw ingredients to something useful.
Provision connects children to the skills and processes behind the things we use and consume every day. Cooking, baking, preserving, foraging, and exploring nutrition become opportunities to understand ingredients, practice practical skills, follow a process, and create something useful. Children experience the satisfaction that comes from taking raw materials and transforming them with knowledge and care.

COMMUNITY
Learning to contribute.
Community teaches children that belonging isn't only about being included—it's also about having something to offer. Through collaboration, leadership, service, entrepreneurship, hospitality, and mixed-age experiences, children practice working alongside others, communicating their ideas, helping where they're needed, and taking responsibility within a group. They begin to see themselves as valuable members of a community rather than simply participants in it.

Not five separate subjects. One connected experience.
The Guilds aren't meant to exist in isolation. A garden harvest might begin in Stewardship, move into Provision as children prepare food, become an entrepreneurship project through Community, and end with Reflection in their Foundry Journals.
Real life doesn't separate learning into neat subjects. Neither do we.
A Rhythm With Room to Explore
Each Foundry gathering has an intentional rhythm while leaving room for curiosity, conversation, changing weather, unexpected discoveries, and the natural pace of meaningful work.
We come together, introduce the day's work, and prepare for what's ahead.

Gather again to talk, journal, share, and consider what we learned.

Community is woven through all days, giving children opportunities to collaborate, lead, serve, communicate, and contribute.
Different ages. Different abilities. One Village.
Our mixed-age environment is intentional. Children aren't expected to complete the same work in the same way.
Younger children have opportunities to observe and learn from older peers, while older children take on greater complexity, independence, and leadership. Projects are adapted to meet children where they are while allowing everyone to contribute.
